International IPY Data Management Meeting
Ottawa, September 29-October 1, 2009
International Polar Year (IPY) 2007-2008 marks the largest-ever international program of scientific research focused on the Arctic and Antarctic regions. Thousands of scientists and researchers from more than 60 nations around the globe participated in IPY. This has produced large and diverse volumes of research data and information that must be effectively managed to ensure their accessibility for future global and polar research to benefit generations to come.
On behalf of the IPY- International Programme Office, Canada will be hosting the International IPY Data Management Meeting from September 29 to October 1, 2009. This represents a great opportunity for data managers / coordinators to take stock of what has been achieved over the last two years and discuss the challenges and opportunities regarding the stewardship of data collected during the International Polar Year.
The meeting will be held in Ottawa at the Ottawa Marriot Hotel (http://www.marriot.com/hotels/maps/travel/yowmc-ottawa-marriot/) steps away from Parliament Hill and other attractions (http://www.ottawatourism.ca). A block of rooms with special conference rates have been set aside for participants and will be available until July 31st, 2009. Reservations made after that date may not be eligible for the conference rate and availability may not be guaranteed. When booking your rooms, please use reservation code “IPYIPYA”.
Some travel support is available for qualified participants.
