This week’s Nature is a special issue focussing on data sharing: http://www.nature.com/news/specials/datasharing/index.html
The feature article includes quotes from me and HÃ¥kan Olsson of the IPY Data Committee, uses IPY as a case study, and mentions the Polar Information Commons.
Creative and Science Commons concepts appear throughout, especially in the opinion piece on “Post-publication sharing of data and tools” which I contributed to and Tania Bubela, a Canadian IPYer, was a lead author.
Themes we have all pushed run through all the articles, including recognizing data publication as equally valuable to results publication, the need for data management education in the scientific curriculum, and the overall need to change the culture of science.
Several of the articles allow for public comment, and I encourage you all to weigh in. We are beginning to make an impact and need to keep the conversation going.
Spread the word!
Cheers,
-m.
