BBC documentary re-enacts 1911 Scott-Amundsen race
In the UK, the BBC will be coming out with a new polar-themed documentary series this weekend. It's called "Blizzard: Race To The Pole," and it recreates one of the most grueling episodes in polar history: The race between Norwegian Roald Amundsen and Englishman Robert Falcon Scott in 1911 to be the first man to reach the South Pole.

The series will re-enact the race with two contemporary teams, but using the equipment, clothes and food from 1911. In the original race, Scott perished, while Amundsen made it to the pole, and the BBC documentary will investigate the reasons why.

The series starts on BBC TWO at 21:00 local time on Sunday, August 6, and will continue on Wednesday and Sunday nights for six episodes.
