The ICSU IPY Planning Group will be meeting for the fourth and final time at ICSU Headquarters, Paris on Sept 15-16th. At this meeting, the group will be discussing the Outline Science Plan, the most recent draft Implementation and Outreach/Education Plans and Data Management issues. The Planning Group gives way in October to a new ICSU/WMO Joint Committee to develop the IPY Programme and the Planning Group will provide advice to ICSU and WMO on the composition and activities of the new committee.
Immediately before the previous Planning Group meeting, a one day Discussion Forum was held, attended by members of the Planning Group and representatives of IPY National Committees and international organisations interested in contributing to IPY. This forum was established to improve communication between the various elements of IPY and was considered a considerable success and its outputs fed substantially into those of the Planning Group. A second Discussion Forum will therefore be held at Reid Hall, Paris on Sept 13-14th, immediately before the Planning Group meeting. In addition to discussing the issues to be raised at the Planning Group meeting, there will be the opportunity for participating committees and international organisations to outline their progress regarding IPY and raise concerns. Details of local hotels around Reid Hall and a draft agenda are being placed on this website and will be accessible through the Meetings tab.
