What significant advance(s) in relation to the IPY themes and targets can be anticipated from this project?
On completion the expedition will have set up educational links with schools (primary) in the U.K. and throughout Arctic Canada. It is also planned to set up preliminary links with schools in Greenland (Siorapuluk, Qaanaaq and Aasiat). The current concerns of the Inuit will also be addressed in the form of radio/book.
What international collaboration is involved in this project?
The expedition has the backing and support of James Delgado (Vancouver Maritime Museum) and Paul Okalik – Premier of Nunuvat.

Primarily Canadian Arctic (N.W. Passage from Mackenzie Delta to Gjoa Haven) Further work to be done in West Greenland

Fixed wing transport aircraft. Sharing possible but unlikely

Yes. Internet education sites will be set up.

Yes - We have met with Premier Okalik of Nunuvat and have the support of his office
PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND STRUCTURE
Is the project a short-term expansion (over the IPY 2007-2008 timeframe) of an existing plan, programme or initiative or is it a new autonomous proposal?
Yes
This is an entirely new project aimed at linking children in the U.K. with children in the Arctic and raising awareness in U.K. of changes in Arctic
How will the project be organised and managed?
The project will be managed by the expedition member with the assistance of an additional 3 people in the U.K. (publicity, education and U.K. contact). This does not Include further educationalists and media contacts who will be approached for advice.
What are the initial plans of the project for addressing the education, outreach and communication issues outlined in the Framework document?
We are currently setting up meetings with educationalists/I.T. experts in the U.K. and have made contact with 6 U.K. schools who will be ‘primary’ contacts.
What are the initial plans of the project to address data management issues (as outlined in the Framework document)?
This aspect has not been fully discussed to date. Written reports will go to the R.G.S. and recordings to the B.B.C.
How is it proposed to fund the project?
Self-funded – some grant bodies to be approached (e.g. R.G.S., Gino Watkins Fund etc.)
