  Education/Outreach and Communication

What significant advance(s) in relation to the IPY themes and targets can be anticipated from this project?
IPY 2007 is the theme of this year's SCRSMEF. It will be featured throughout our 44 page program. Each page of the program will contain some important information about the polar regions, types of research that will be conducted, frontiers of science research, historical aspects of IPY, and societal issues.

What international collaboration is involved in this project?
The SCRSMEF is an affiliated Intel International Science & Engineering Fair.

FIELD ACTIVITY DETAILS

Geographical location(s) for the proposed field activities:
There will be no field work.

Approximate timeframe(s) for proposed field activities:
Arctic: n/a
Antarctic: n/a

Significant facilities will be required for this project:
No logistical support or facilities will be required.

Will the project leave a legacy of infrastructure?
Hopefully it will inform the general public about IPY, the issues being addressed, and also encourage our young scientists to consider future research projects or careers relevant to IPY.

How is it envisaged that the required logistic support will be secured?

Has the project been "endorsed" at a national or international level?
Yes - We are an officially recognized affiliated regional fair under the auspices of Intel's International Science & Engineering Fair.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND STRUCTURE

Is the project a short-term expansion (over the IPY 2007-2008 timeframe) of an existing plan, programme or initiative or is it a new autonomous proposal?
Yes
It is a new component of the 2007 SCRSMEF. Hopefully we can interest educators attending the Fair to form educational links with other schools worldwide and to incorporate IPY activities/events into their science curricula.

How will the project be organised and managed?
The Fair Director will organize and produce the 2007 SCRSMEF program.

What are the initial plans of the project for addressing the education, outreach and communication issues outlined in the Framework document?
In addition to the Fair activities, educators will be provided with handouts on how to incorporate IPY activities in their curriculum.

What are the initial plans of the project to address data management issues (as outlined in the Framework document)?

How is it proposed to fund the project?
SCRSMEF is funded by Seminole County Public Schools.

Is there additional information you wish to provide?
We would appreciate any educational materials for teachers or the source of some of these materials.
