New Schedule and Review Information for IPY Proposals

New details regarding the IPY schedule and related information is now available...

WHEN?

a. 30 June 2005
OR
b. 30 September 2005
OR
c. 16 January 2006

WHAT?

Expanded, coordinated proposals for IPY activities, stating how the proposed efforts will meet IPY goals of excellent science in an internationally coordinated effort that will attract new researchers and improve public understanding. Please see detailed themes, objectives and priorities on the IPY web site www.ipy.org and in the IPY Framework document. Please also review the Guidance Notes on Preparing Submissions for June 30, 2005 , also on the IPY website.

All expanded proposals should describe explicit integration and coordination among related activities; these proposals should not re-submit materials already provided. Individuals or groups who feel satisfied with descriptions of proposed activities as contained in the current IPY Expressions of Interest database do not need to re-submit that information. (Individuals or groups who want to add a new Expression of Interest or change or update information in an earlier Expression of Interest should contact )

HOW?

Use forms and templates provided on the IPY web site. To ensure prompt processing of expanded proposals, the IPO must receive all materials electronically and in the specified format. If a coordinated planning group has additional materials, for example, longer documents or complex graphics, please contact the to arrange a seperate link to that material.

WHAT DATE SHOULD AN IPY COORDINATED PLANNING GROUP USE?

Use the earliest practical date, guided by planning maturity and by scientific and funding schedules of all group participants. Well-planned, well-coordinated IPY activities submitted in June can gain early Joint Committee endorsement. If, for reasons of national funding urgency, an effort needs prompt Joint Committee evaluation, the group organising that effort should submit by the June deadline and alert the IPY IPO to the need for a prompt response.

WHAT IF MY EXPRESSION OF INTEREST SEEMS 'CLUSTERED' IN THE WRONG GROUP?

IPY activities should organise around shared goals and needs. If the original IPY project organisation suggestions (the clusters) do not provide the best fit for your scientific, data management, or education and outreach goals, contact another group or start your own group.

WHAT IF NO COORDINATION ACTIVITIES HAVE YET OCCURRED WITHIN A SUGGESTED CLUSTER OR WITHIN SOME OTHER GROUP OF RELATED ACTIVITIES?

IPY Participants should initiate as many of the coordination efforts as possible. If questions or problems still remain, please contact the .
